One family among the families: the feast on the Amalfi Coast

The region of Campania in Italy is perhaps best known for the Amalfi Coast [Amalfi Coast] for its spectacular views of Pompeii and other archaeological sites of historical interest, and for the city of Naples, which characterized by cultural contradictions. More often than not, tourists flock to the Amalfi Coast with its romantic views and renowned hotels and drive that winds along the coast and around the silhouette of the misty hills and terraced fields of lemon trees. It is often called a destination family. Ironically, however, this region of Italy is truly a man whose success has turned on the strength of families who live there. The willingness of neighbors share the spirit of family is what made our trip there with our two young children, the most memorable one of the trips we have Italian made.

We traveled to the Amalfi Coast in the top of the offseason at the end of March, and thus miss the birth of the spring flora and vegetation of the region's many incredible. But he also went through the crowds and heavy traffic that bloom along with flowers a little after Easter. This fortuitous timing also coincided with the "Semana Santa" Holy Week before Easter. Also experienced the spectacle of the "Holy giovedi [Maundy Thursday], including" Lavanda dei Piedi "[foot washing] symbolic of the day and" Prossessione of SS.Sacramento Cappella della reposizione Adorazione went by ". This is an impressive and disturbing procession of intention to remember betrayal of Christ. That night, we followed the common people while walking for hours and Ravello on the hills behind men wearing white robes and dissidents hoods singing lamentations tortuous path mark the sadness of Christ.

We chose as a basis, Ravello, a village in the hills of the Amalfi Drive, that we found to be less steep coastal towns of Amalfi and Positano, and more accessible to other destinations like Pompeii and Naples. We arrived at night at the apperitivo so they decided to take in the atmosphere of the square, with the backdrop of the church Ravello La Chiesa Annunziata. There, beyond the warning signs of "not playing ball, no bikes, no scooters and skating not" sit the local bar and watched our children reach ten years old and living, Enrico and others, playing football, cycling, skating and scootering. While the children They met, started talking with the bar owner, Uncle Enrico, Luigi Schiavo.

"It's so beautiful, quiet, I told him that he brought us a glass of Pinot Grigio, "All children seem to get better." "We are almost all related, he said," Look at that Shop there? The pottery sale. She is my cousin. The travel agent around the corner … who is her husband. Then there's Vincenzo … "

In the following a one hour period, an explanation of his extended family, and another glass of Pinot Grigio, followed. Mario Capuano, Luigi cousin, owner of Wagner Tours. "She specializes in planning weddings on the Amalfi coast, but also organizes just about any other kind of trip you can imagine. "We try to cover all the details," said Mario. We know the importance of family, and believe me, the first step is a happy day and stress-free wedding … "The woman is Mario Amatruda Paolina. It is with the pottery studio near the bar. For 25 years, the bank offered traditional ceramics from Vietri noted for their close refined beauty and quality. "We always try to renew," said Paulina, to adapt, but without losing the traditional quality that we have supported all these years. Our children keep us young and our memories of family help us to remain faithful to our traditions, "the talent of the family does not end with Mario and his wife. Vincenzo Amatruda, Mario's brother in law teaches cooking classes for private house, situated on a cliff 350 meters above sea level. After many years as Chief Executive and owner of a restaurant in Ravello "Vincenzina" [abbreviation of "Vincent"] has developed a cooking school that provides that people can cook and eat "with the heart and not just the mouth." Firstly, Vincenzina takes his students to some of the smaller stores power located in the historic streets of Ravello. In Italian and English, introduces students to store owners and an explanation of how which people choose their wine and plant remains. Together, choose the menu with the seasons and tastes of all present. Finally, go to practice in the preparation of food, wine and apperitivo gracefully past "il primo" course and "secondo il" and, finally, dessert and coffee. If the time as often happens in Ravello, Vincenzina Students will eat on the terrace of your dining experience can be enhanced by the spectacular view of the Mediterranean.

A total experience that the family may be made by venturing beyond the warmth of the extended family but Capuano just arrived in this region of Italy, without taking shares in the joys of coaching Amalfi. The first step in this process, if you have the gall and envy [and age children to sit behind you without immersion] is to rent a scooter.

When you rent a scooter in the picturesque Positano, rent a scooter? Maybe. But you also find the "f Quattro Chiacchiere" [make a chat] could also go that they are tenants of Pepe Mandara Positano rent scooter, [Viale Pasitea 99, tel. 089 812 2077], the cousin Giulio, Anna, Rosa and Raffaele Mandara who are owners of the pizzeria in the street, Valle dei Mulini, [Via Vecchia 5, tel. 089 875 232]. Or maybe you could meet their cousins in other Luisa's shop, next, as Susanna Mandara, the designer, Louise and Gaetano Mandara, the owner and mother of Suzanne and her father, Mandara, Giovanna, Suzanne's sister and a seamstress, in charge of production design by Susanna. "In Positano, it is common for the whole family to have a hand in a successful business, "Susana said:" We do what we can to help others. My success is your success and some so, his is my success too. No analysis here in Positano family would be complete without the inclusion of significant Sersale family, owners of The Sirenuse [+39 089 875066], the largest hotel in Positano. Sersale family owns a vacation home in Positano, a 18th century palace in central the city, I used to spend summer vacation, but during the Second World War has retired there full time for escape the bombing of his hometown of Naples. In 1951, however, the family decided to convert their vacation home in a small and elegant hotel. They began with eight bedrooms and a large terrace overlooking the islands of the sirens. Fifty years later, the hotel has 62 rooms with all the benefits a luxury five star hotel. But staying at The Sirenuse still has the feeling of being at home. Today, the family Sersale The Sirenuse and family members work together to maintain its position as a world-class hotel. Four descendants of the original owner, Antonio Sersale were responsible for the initial opening of the hotel. For years, big brother, Aldo, manages the hotel with the help of the Mayor Positano's brother Paolo Sersale Aldo's. Together, these two brothers went to the hotel to Paolo's death in 1991. Aldo, also sick at the moment, has resigned, and his younger brother, Franco, Franco talks began making improvements to credit today with the current state of the luxury hotel. His taste for the decorative painting and sculpture are a vehicle of expression as liberal races French antique offset the architecture of the hotel and to please the guests. His son, Anthony, now heads the hotel as Franco, aged 77, describes himself as "semi-retired." "He is retired but continues to be our" center. "We know we can go to him on important decisions regarding the direction we want the hotel to take. We've always kind of response that we can cling to our family roots, while at the same time creating a vision for our future to keep pace with the needs of our customers and their tastes. "As for the" semi-tired "of the family, I'm back at the bar and a glass of Chianti when and watch children play ball behind the sign of" bad player "with his new friends. Our journey continues with a visit to Amalfi, Capri, Pompeii and Naples … but that's a story for another article …
